Puducherry Government allows all shops and establishments who are employing 10 or more persons to remain open for all days of the year for 3 years

The Labour Department of Puducherry has granted exemption to shops and establishments who are employing 10 or more persons from section 10 and 16 of the Puducherry Shops and Establishments Act, 1964. The all shops and establishments are allowed to remain open for 24 x 7 hours on all days of the year for a period of 3 years, i.e. till 27th October, 2025, subject to the following conditions: i. Provide one day holiday to every employee in a week on rotation basis and the details of every employee. ii. Exhibit details of the employees who are on holiday or leave on daily basis in a conspicuous place in the establishments. iii. The wages including overtime wages of the employees shall be credited to savings bank account. iv. Do not allow any employee to work for more than 8 hours on any day and 48 hours in any week and the period of work including over time shall not exceed ten and a half hours in any day and 57 hours in a week. v. Make proper indent of overtime if making employees work on any holiday or after normal duty hours. vi. Ensure to obtain written consent and provide adequate protection of dignity, honour and safety to women employees working between 8.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m. vii. Transport arrangements shall be provided to the women employees who work in shifts. A notice to this effect shall be exhibited at the main entrance of the establishment indicating the availability of transport. viii. Provide restroom, washroom, safety lockers and other basic amenities. ix. Constitute and operate Internal Complaints Committee against sexual harassment of women under the Sexual Harassment of Women at workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.
